Developing partnership and cooperation was the main goal of the meeting on 31 July between the Chairman of the Trade Union Alexei Semerun and representatives of the international non-governmental humanitarian organisation IsraAID in Ukraine.

The railway is one of the most important elements of our country’s infrastructure. However, working in a time of war, railway workers are exposed to significant risks. That is why the trade union considers it necessary to provide employees with additional theoretical and practical knowledge of first aid, as well as to provide them with the necessary psychological support and improve working conditions.

The project to conduct a series of first aid trainings was another step in the fruitful cooperation between the trade union and IsraAID Ukraine. The first such training was held on 31 July 2024 for employees of the Centre for Track Construction and Repair branch. In addition to the skills needed by everyone, the training participants received certificates and first aid kits.

Viktor Muza, chairman of the branch’s united trade union organisation, emphasised: ‘This training on first aid for employees is extremely important, as you can save your own life and the life of another person with your skills and actions in an emergency.’

The meeting also addressed other possible issues of future cooperation, such as water supply and installation of water purification systems in the units that need it.

Oleksiy Semerun’ thanked IsraAID for the long and effective partnership, which the trade union recognised with a certificate, and emphasised: ‘Cooperation with IsraAID Ukraine is a vivid example of international solidarity and assistance to Ukraine in this difficult time. We are confident that by working together we will be able to ensure the safety and well-being of railway workers who make a significant contribution to maintaining transport links in our country every day.’
