On 7 October, trade unions and workers around the world mark ‘World Day for Decent Work’. This year’s slogan is ‘Workers deserve peace and democracy’.
Decent work means fair pay, workplace safety and social protection.
The International Trade Union Confederation, which launched the World Day for Decent Work, notes that military confrontations are leading to widespread loss of life, livelihoods and rights. Working people are among the first to suffer. As one example, the ITUC cites the situation in Ukraine: since 2022, russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine has caused unimaginable human suffering and cost thousands of lives. The global trade union movement continues to call for peace and the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
