In May 2024, joint resolutions of the regional branches and road trade unions of Lviv Railway and Odesa Railway adopted a decision to amend collective agreements to provide for the payment of one-time financial assistance at the birth of a child. It should be noted that the right to receive such assistance arises in case of birth of a child after 01 January 2024.
We remind you that by the letter of ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ dated 23.11.2023 № CCUP-14/1644, the payment of financial assistance was resumed in accordance with the collective agreement (payment type code 643). This decision of the Management Board of Ukrzaliznytsia was facilitated by the appeal of our Youth Council regarding the need to support young railway workers.
In this regard, Kateryna Izmailova, head of the trade union’s Youth Council, noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, youth councils at various levels have been sending relevant appeals.
– ‘In general, any issues related to children, we believe, are issues related to the demographic situation in the country and the future as a whole, and therefore they are a priority for us,’ the youth leader said. ‘Currently, together with the trade union leadership, we are negotiating with the administration of Ukrzaliznytsia to develop a single fair concept of these payments for all employees. Of course, it is important to restore all the payments stipulated by the Sectoral Agreement and collective agreements, but the result achieved for young families in these regions is also significant.
In the future, Kateryna Izmailova noted, we will raise the need to develop a Youth Policy for Ukrzaliznytsia, which should clearly define and prescribe sections related to the children of railway workers. It is no secret that the railway is based on dynasties, which form a large railway family.
