The Trade Union of Railway Workers and Transport Construction Workers of Ukraine supports the initiative of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia to index tariffs for cargo transportation, provided that part of the revenues is directed toward improving the social standards of railway workers and settling the arrears on payments unilaterally suspended since the start of the full-scale invasion. This position of the trade union was voiced during the meeting of the Anti-Crisis Economic Stability Headquarters under martial law.

The wage increase for employees, which currently remains low, will also depend on this, as emphasized by our trade union during the meeting. According to the results of 2024, the average monthly salary of railway workers amounted to UAH 19,815, which is 9.1% lower than the forecasted average monthly salary in Ukraine. It is also important to note that more than 10,000 employees of the company receive wages at the level of the minimum set in the country.

The event was attended by representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Security and Defence Council, industry associations, trade unions, local governments, academics and experts.

On this occasion, we once again emphasised the need for state support for the railway transport industry: ensuring 100 per cent compensation to Ukrzaliznytsia for privileged transportation and exemption from land tax for railway transport land.
