The staff of the State University of Infrastructure and Technology appealed to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to withdraw the draft CMU Order on the reorganisation of the university by merging it with the National Transport University.

Teachers, staff and students of the DUIT are protesting against the backroom, unreasonable and non-transparent decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to reorganise the institution and merge it with the National Transport University in the midst of the admission campaign.

This decision effectively destroys the DUIT, a higher education institution that trains specialists in transport infrastructure, which is critical to the country’s economy. After all, the National Transport University trains road transport specialists and has neither the facilities nor the staff to train railway and water transport specialists trained by the DUIT. And this is at a time when the Ukrainian railways are sorely lacking qualified personnel for emergency repair work and all other areas, as the enemy mercilessly destroys transport infrastructure.

At the same time, the actions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine violate the principles of state policy in the field of education, in particular, the preservation and development of the higher education system, compliance with the principles of autonomy of higher education institutions, harmonious interaction of national systems of education, science, business and the state in order to ensure sustainable socio-economic development.

Despite assurances from the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, that the merger involves consultations and dialogue with the heads of higher education institutions, no information or proposals from the Ministry have been communicated to the staff of the DUIT, who may lose their jobs and find themselves on the streets in the midst of the war and economic crisis in Ukraine. The approval of the decision in various instances is also carried out in secret from the staff of the DUIT. Representatives of the second institution have full information about the reorganisation process, which puts the staff in unequal conditions.

Therefore, the staff of the State University of Infrastructure and Technology is forced to defend justice and appeal to all authorities to ensure an open and transparent dialogue on initiatives related to the modernisation of higher education institutions in the infrastructure and transport sectors. The relevant decision was made on 31 May 2024 at the general meeting of the many hundreds of employees of the University.
